In this episode, we cover Stress and Anxiety, the differences between them, and how to combat both to improve your life.
Studies have shown that the incidence of Anxiety Disorders in people with Epilepsy is almost two-fold than in the general public.
In our Triggers episode, we covered that all stress is not the same. There is a real difference between good and bad stress.
In our Memory episode, we covered how chronic stress can actually affect brain chemistry and structure and how that affects the ability to encode memories.
This time around we are covering the basics of Stress and Anxiety.
Thank you, Jo Mackenzie for lending her voice talent in this episode.
Finding Help for Chronic Stress or Anxiety
According to the Mayo Clinic, there are some ways to fight chronic stress and anxiety, but ultimately some of us need to seek professional counseling. It is not weak but smart to ask for help when you need it. There are plenty of support groups willing to help.

I put up the website of the company I started in 1990 with my now, ex, alcoholic husband. I was very proud, switched on and a wife and mum in addition to running a successful business. This all changed through business and personal stress in 2014. Hospitalised due to a near Nervous Breadown and worsening epilepsy (started aged 11 and now worsened since I was 53). It’s a long story, won’t bore you, but can’t work, Family assist in my Divorce – only the bit of paper, not the assets and some Family took over my business. The ex is in a Home and now left alcohol behind and has a brilliant memory. Mine is crap which really stresses me. Much more inc an overgrowth detected on my Pituitary gland, doubling of medication and, of course, a fall out with my Family because I can be very forthright, then forget everything …. and they don’t really understand Epilepsy and what it has made me into. I think they think this woman who can’t remember things, often tearful, can be confused is me somehow putting it on to seek attention!…. you see I look OK, so what’s wrong with her??? Seeking attention?? Stress is my trigger… 😢💜
