Our host, David Clifford, talks through how Epilepsy is related to Traumatic Brain Injury including an injury he suffered in a car accident in his teens.

This is the video that inspired this episode, where a New York City Police Officer throws a young girl to the ground for her to hit her head on the curb. It is reported that she suffered a seizure on the way to the hospital.

Unfortunately, a new video has also surfaced of Buffalo city police officers pushing a man in his seventies to the ground to hit his head.

The annual incidence of traumatic brain injury in the United States is >2.5 million, of which ~12% results in hospitalization or death. It is estimated that TBI is an etiological factor in up to 20% of symptomatic epilepsies in the general population.

Traumatic brain injury is still one of the leading causes of Epilepsy throughout the world. In an earlier episode of The Brain Ablaze Epilepsy Podcast, we created the following public service announcement.

The CDC has provided a detailed list of the measures that one should take to help prevent traumatic brain injuries.
