In this episode (player link at bottom), I walk through the concepts of Adult Neurogenesis and Neuroplasticity, why they are important to the people of Epilepsy, and how they can be used now to help with your recovery.

Gaining neuroplasticity means pushing your brain in ways that it wouldn’t normally be pushed. Here are some great ideas to get you started.

Drawing

If you are into Comics and you’ve probably already learned who Jim Lee is. He started his career in comics in the 1980s on comics like Punisher War Journal and X-Men for Marvel, he co-founded Image Comics and has since moved to DC Comics to revolutionize both the Batman and Superman franchises. He is now Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics. If you’re still not impressed try taking a look at his twitch or YouTube channels where he teaches extremely talented artists to draw.

If you don’t feel that you have the skills to join Jim Lee’s stream just yet (and let’s face it who really does), don’t worry! Our friends, Steve Ellis and David Gallaher at Bottled Lightning have generously provided a tutorial to help you draw the characters from their THE ONLY LIVING BOY and THE ONLY LIVING GIRL comic franchises to get you started.

Music

Learning a musical instrument is similar to learning a new language when it comes to the brain. The Center Stage Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele Academy YouTube Channel is a great place to start.

While you are at it, why not invest time to discover new music? While I’m not usually one for ranking of music (how can one rank all the different material that’s out there) Rolling Stone does have a List of their lists of Greatest 500 Albums of All Time and Greatest 500 Singles of All Time.

See You Next Time!
