Many of you have reached out to learn what will happen to our Epilepsy Support Group sessions after Epilepsy Awareness Month ends. We want to answer some of the basic questions that have already been asked about our plans moving ahead.

Will You Continue the Sessions?

Yes, absolutely. We know that many of you have asked that the sessions continue even after our Epilepsy Awareness Month ends. We’ve also heard from a lot of you that meeting weekly is too strenuous for your schedule. In all fairness, eight sessions a month is too strenuous for ours as well. To help, we are going to move to host two different recurring sessions each month. The first session will on the 10th of every month and geared to the GMT timezone. The second session will be on the 26th and geared to the PST timezone. We will continue to allow anyone from anywhere to join any session.

Why the 10th and the 26th?

Ten and twenty-six are important numbers to people with Epilepsy. One out of ten people will have a seizure sometime in their lifetime, while one out of twenty-six will develop Epilepsy. Having the sessions on the 10th and 26th of each month also allows us to provide support for two evenly-spaced (somewhat) sessions for those of you that wish to go to both sessions.

At What Time will the Sessions be Held?

The sessions will start sometime in the afternoons so people can attend the session after work. In the next couple of weeks, we will create polls to allow people within our Twitter community to vote for the session time specific to each timezone.

How Can I Join the Sessions?

The sessions will continue to be hosted on Zoom. Soon, we will create a page for each support group timezone here on Brain Ablaze that will be continuously updated with the invite information.

How Can I be Reminded about Sessions (or Cancellations)?

We will continue to use Twitter to send out reminders before a session starts or if a session is canceled. If you have an aversion to Twitter and still wish to be reminded, we plan to have an email list as well. We will add you to the list if you send a message to social@brainablaze.com that includes “Epilepsy Session GMT” or “Epilepsy Session PST” as the subject.

Are you Planning to Have Guests?

That’s something that has been on our radar. We also want to ensure that this time is available for everyone to discuss what’s on their mind, so if we do have guests they will start off as being few and far between.

What are the Basic Rules for each Session?

We want to ensure that each session is inclusive for everyone, so we ask that our guests take special care to stay away from topics that might ruin the inclusive environment. We understand that we all need to vent sometimes, but we ask that everyone to cater their venting to the stress of our lifestyle living with seizures and not categories like politics or history.

To Whom do I Contact With My Other Questions?

If you have a question that we haven’t answered odds are someone else has that same question. We would love to hear it. We are always available on Twitter or via email at social@brainablaze.com.
